Sai Khao Beach offers more lifestyle services than any other beach on the island

Sai Khao Beach South is site of the Koh Chang’s busiest tourist village, with the more shops, convenience stores, restaurants, markets, bars and ugly concrete constructions than other parts of the island. Plus mini-marts, street market stalls and ATMs. There are also many delightful beach bars right in the sand, often shaded by huge beach trees, that are very popular as sunset viewing spots. See the photos in the gallery above.
.
The steep mountain squeezes the road down close to the beach here, leaving only a narrow strip of hillside about 50 metres wide for hotels. Many have thus built on the mountain side of the road, not the beach side. Many hotels along the wrong side of the road call themselves a 'beach hotel'. However this website does not qualify them as true beachfront, so beware and check carefully or you may be fighting traffic to get to the beach.
.
The beach is very narrow at the far south end, often disappearing completely at high tide, leaving sun-loving visitors wrestling for every square metre of sand for their beach lounges. There are trees overhanging the sand, giving it atmosphere. Many places have built rock or concrete walls here. The ocean floor is also rocky at the bottom end. Non-beachfornt hotels along the road have poor beach access.
.
This south end is home to some of the bigger and better beachfront resorts – see the map. The larger resorts naturally offer a wider range of facilities. These include Kacha Resort and Chang Buri Resort. The nearby Koh Chang Grand View has a large area with spacious gardens, but relatively few rooms, giving guests lots of green space.. Note that several hotels on this beach have an annex across the road, and the road is quite busy. Those across-road room blocks are marked clearly on the beach map. Accommodations there are generally cheaper, but beware if you want a room by the beach.
.
This part of the beach has increasing problems as you move south; the sand gets narrower while increasing number of rocks gradually to overtake the sand. See the photos in front of each hotel, for some have little beach.
.
This beach is popular due to easy access from Bangkok, its soft sand, clear water and party beach atmosphere, but not because it is the most relaxing or romantic beach.
