Ao Phrao & Klong Hin beaches are both exceptionally natural, entirely unchanged by development

.
Ao Phrao Beach on Koh Kood's south coast is the most remote of the beaches that can be accessed by road. The drive to it is pleasant, with all but the last few hundred metres over a small concreted road through steep hills clothed by forest and rubber plantations. (It is also spelled Ao Prao Beach).
.
An unusually wide, flat valley runs far behind this beach, providing coconut farmers of old with many hectares for cultivation. Small dirt roads run through the coconut plantations leading to the beach, to a tiny fishing community and to the three resorts here.
.
Ao Phrao Beach is a vision of tropical beauty barely blemished by development. Coconut palms cast their shadows over wide sand. Looking either way down the beach you would hardly guess there are many beach bungalows hidden in the lush green. Only a wooden jetty and few beach chairs suggest the presence of humans. The water lapping the fine, grey-white sand appears as clear as it comes, and from the jetty small schools of fish can observed in their every move as the sweep across the sandy bottom.
.
Images of beach perfection and tranquillity like this have helped make Koh Kood famous and now compel growing numbers of visitors to make the rather long journey to get here.
.
The two beachfront resorts at the east end of Ao Phrao Beach are large in area, but not room numbers. The bungalows of KoKut Ao Phrao Beach Resort and Ao Phrao Sunshine Resort are spread through spacious, lush coconut gardens. Both remain in the hands of the original coconut farmers of old, and as family-run affairs, retain the personal feel where guests can easily meet and talk to owners and managers. The sense of spaciousness, of lush lawns and gardens plus wide open sands are some of the great luxuries of Koh Kood that have since disappeared in so many other beach destinations in Thailand and elsewhere. See the images in the beach gallery here, and in the hotels' own pages within this site.
.
Despite the distance, guests arriving on Koh Kood via any of the three big boat services will be delivered to the resorts on Ao Phrao Beach within the ferry ticket price. However, most groups and some independent guests in the two beachfront resorts arrive by speed boat, alighting on the wooden jetty. It's certainly the most convenient way, but the ferry and road trip also provide a good opportunity to see more of the island.
.
As the map shows, KoKut Ao Phrao Beach Resort is the largest of the accommodations here, and was the first. Though it has some older bungalows the resort is well maintained and has all comforts expected in a good, 3-star establishment. The beautiful, green environment in which the rooms are set comes as an extra luxury. For children, the thick lawns and shaded areas are excellent for running and playing.
.
Ao Phrao Sunshine Resort, a related property, similarly has lots of open space for their bungalows, though their trees are not as mature or shady as those next door. Its beach is equally attractive, of course.
.
The most unusual establishment on this beach is ForRest Resort, a small, stilted retreat over the mangrove stream hidden at the back of the fishing village. Its restaurant hangs out over the water, making this an especially pleasant, relaxing hideaway. Guests can kayak from the resort, heading inland up the river or out to sea and along the beach. Despite that it takes a shot walk to the beach, and a few family motor scooters use the same boardwalk to get there, there is no real traffic or road here and we have qualified this interesting place as beachfront. See the photos of ForRest in the hotel's gallery.
.
Overall, Ao Phrao Beach is one of the biggest, remotest and most attractive beaches on Koh Kood, with spaciousness and tranquillity being high on its list of attributes.
