The headland between Kamala Beach and Patong Beach has been dubbed millionaire's mile due to the growing number of expensive private villas and ocean view resorts here. Forget about sandy beaches, think beautiful sunsets and grand views over the Andaman Sea. It is so spectacular here that many wealthy people have build villas into difficult terrain to gain a slice of this stunning, steep coast.

Three 5-star villa resorts are built into the steep inclines, with only Araya Kamala Resort having a kind of rocky beach. Paresa Resort, a lavish spa resort crafted into the hillside, offers access to the clear water over the huge granite boulders here... good for snorkelling. These two are ideal for anyone seeking a peaceful spa escape in a grand landscape. See our photos of both.

Access to Kamala Beach requires transport, taking just 5 minutes, while both Patong Beach and Surin Beach, with their restaurant & bar scenes, are about 15 minutes away.

Nakalay Beach, on the south of this headland, is another of Phuket's many beautiful little beaches in its own bay. As in many of these small bays, a single hotel, the Thavorn Beach Village, commands the entire area behind 500 metres of sand. This effectively gives the hotel its own private beach – though all beaches in Thailand are public property. This hotel has a large, winding swimming pool and lush tropical beach gardens. Nakalay looks back towards Patong, but is far enough away to enjoy its own tranquillity. The water is good for swimming at high tide, but too shallow at low.
