This attractive beach is enclosed in a picturesque bay with a couple of small islands just offshore, adding an artistic touch. The beach has soft, white sand, which is quite wide, leading into water that is generally clear and reasonably deep for swimming. The bottom gets a little rocky towards the west side, but there are no hotels there.
There is quite a bit of shade at the top of the beach, save the middle portion where hotels and restaurants have replaced them. Big casuarina trees cast lots of shade towards both sides. In general, it’s a great children's beach.

The beach has a pointed sandbar on the east side, jutting out and almost – but not quite – reaching those two little islands. At spring low tides you can walk across to them. There’s also another little beach and bay beyond the sand spit where you can get away from the low-level crowd found on the main part of the beach during high seasons.
.
Choeng Mon is a medium quiet area. There are almost no hotels save the true beachfront ones seen on our map, so the number of people on the beach never really approaches a crowd. It has its own, unique atmosphere that many love.
.
One of the major advantages here is the easy driving distance to the razzmatazz of Chaweng's famous shopping and nightlife zone, plus the low-key fun of Bophut’s Fisherman’s Village. It making this a good choice for those seeking a tropical beach vacation that includes peace & quiet by day, with some distractions and fun by night.
.
Among resorts that take up most of the central area of the beach are two attractive boutique designer resorts, Sala Samui Resort and Muang Samui Villas & Suites. The former has luxury pool villas in private compounds, the latter has lavish Thai-style architecture & design. The most unusual design is seen in the Imperial Boathouse, where old river barges have been turned into luxury garden cottages. A few 3-star hotels and budget cottages blend between the luxury 5-star resorts.
.
At mid beach there are two large, independent, Thai-style restaurants that provide tourist shelter from the midday sun, serving cold beer and regular Thai food at reasonable prices. Every resort has its own restaurant-bar facing the sand also.
.
A new shopping area has sprung up along the main road at the back of the beach, but it is still small with only the basic mini-marts, a few restaurants and various shops. There are several restaurants here, a couple of convenience stories, plenty of ATMs, motorcycles and cars for rent and a few varied shops.
