How to find the lowest hotel rates on Koh Samui?
We identify hotels that guarantee, in writing, to discount below the best on-line rates for guests who book directly with the hotel. This cuts out middlemen and saves money for both guest and hotel – and we take no commission.
See the GUARANTEE list on the Samui map page, then contact hotels directly via the e-mail box on the hotel page. Or e-mail Jade for advice on jadebeachfront@gmail.com
DISCOUNT ROOM VOUCHERS, the very cheapest rooms available on Koh Samui, are also available through this site, but conditions apply. Click here to see the full Koh Samui listing.

Big Buddha Beach takes its name from the huge statue of Buddha that sits offshore near the east end of the beach. This statue dominates all views in this area, and the large volume of traffic coming to the huge Buddha image each day far outdoes the number of people coming to visit the beach or its few hotels.
.
Also, the island's biggest and busiest jetty is located close by, bringing another stream of visitors. Boats leave here for Koh Phangan, Surat Thani, Koh Tao and on diving and day tours. The bay here is Samui's best-protected boat anchorage, attracting quite a number of craft. But it is not a particularly safe anchorage in monsoon weather. Samui has no purpose-built marina or a fully enclosed, all-weather anchorage, something that has held back the development of marine tourism here. Still, there is a variety of boats for charter here.
.
The fact that Big Buddha Beach faces beautiful sunsets over ocean and island gives it another significant attraction. This, plus the flow of visitors to the statue and the jetty has enabled a thriving beachfront restaurant and bar trade to develop here. Sunset watching, with a cool drink in hand, is the major activity on this beach, with many people crossing from Chaweng each day to join the cold drink, hot sun worshippers.
.
Like Bangrak Beach, the other end of this long strip of sand, the sand here is narrow and the water not particularly good for swimming. The water is quite shallow, and never really clear because the beach is set back in a bay that cannot flush as well as other beaches. But it is a good beach for kids to play on.
.
There is a number of accommodations here, with a few budget, but many in the 3-star range. Saboey Resort & Villas, the most up-market place here, is aiming for 4-stars. Big Buddha Beach is developing a fun and trendy atmosphere with its sunset-viewing restaurants and bars. Its major drawback – or so it would seem – is that it lies under the airport flight path. However, this writer regularly stays in hotels in the Big Buddha area for the convenient access it gives to other parts of the island – and is never bothered by the sound of aircraft. Those coming to land are low, but make little noise. When taking off they are high above by the time they pass the beach.
