Bang Po West takes in the big headland on the northwest corner of the island

Three beaches are included in this map, and while Bang Po is the best-known because the main ring road runs right alongside its sands on the northern shore, it is not necessarily the most beautiful of them, just the best-known. The other two are scarcely seen, because the main road cuts across this northern peninsula, leaving both far from sight.
.
Bang Po Beach, along the northern shore, is narrow and faces shallow water caused by the offshore reef, seen in the satellite photo. Swimming here is thus only possible at high tide. For the most part the beach has coconut palms hanging out over the sand, giving it a pretty, tropical look.
.
In some parts the road runs close to the sand, leaving space for only small private houses and the occasional local restaurant. Further west the road moves away, and we find a couple of villa-style accommodations with full household facilities suitable for family or group living, The Emerald Residences and Baan Laem Noi Villa.
.
There are great views out to Koh Phangan from all along this coast.

Laem Yai Beach runs up the West Coast, and holds two especially tranquil, upmarket resorts in the 4-star and 5-star range, The Passage Samui and Mai Samui Beach Resort. Again, the beach here is narrow, with a wide stretch of shallows in front that makes swimming possible only at high tide. But this is an especially pretty and tranquil area, accessed through huge coconut plantations.
.
Both resorts enjoy wide beachfronts with restaurants and beach bars facing great views towards the mainland and the sunset. The Passage has garden villa rooms blended spaciously into tropical beach gardens. Mai Samui has two- and three-story buildings surrounding a network of big swimming pools, an excellent compensation for the poor swimming conditions along this beach.
.

Hidden on the north shore of the peninsula and occupying a true dream beach, the Four Seasons Resort is surely one of the most beautiful, romantic resorts on Koh Samui. This is spread over two facing hillsides, with sea view villas crafted into lush tropical gardens and a postcard-perfect beach below. See our photos of this tropical beach of soft white sand and swaying coconut palms. As on most beaches in Samui, the water is shallow and only good for swimming at high tide.
.
This hotel has a strong emphasis on health & wellness, and thus has a full service spa and varied beach sports and activities, including kayaking, snorkelling and catamarans for beach sailing.
.
Nathon town, the island’s admin centre, plus a strong of Thai seafood restaurants north of that are easily accessed from all resorts in this area. The seafood cater more to local Thais than tourists, so expect real, hot Thai food. But to see any of the island or nearby outside attractions you need personal transport when staying here. Many guests rent cars or motorcycles, readily available in all parts of the island.
