Bangrak includes the entire bay, with Big Buddha Beach part of the whole

This beach is currently metamorphosing from an old backpacker destination to a trendy mid market place with hip resorts and numerous restaurants. The beach offers distinctive views; facing Koh Pha Ngan on the horizon, the Big Buddha statue to the right and perfect photo sunsets to the left.
.
The deeply curved bay also offers shelter for boats and is a traditional fishing port, though most of the local boat owners now find more profit in tourism than their barren sea.
.
18 beachfront resorts here are squeezed between the road and beach, and are mostly small. Some are beautifully designed. While most are in the 2-star and 3-star range, there are a few luxury villas and fancy spa resorts here also.
.
The beach is generally narrow, and the sand somewhat coarse. The water is quite shallow and not suitable for swimming at low tide. This is not a beach real tropical beauty, though it is one with its own distinct atmosphere that many like. Samui airport is close by, making it convenient to come and go, but the planes also come in low overhead.
.
A large boat jetty services ferries plying the waters to Koh Pha Ngan and Koh Tao and those taking visitors on diving expeditions and various day trips. A colourful fresh market is found near the jetty, along with restaurants and sunset bars.
.
For those doing beach photography in Samui, Bang Rak offers the best vantage point for beautiful sunset photography. And, of course, great bars for sunset drinks.
